What is Social Engineering?
It’s manipulation…
It’s deception…
It is when hackers stop hacking machines….and start hacking people
They might pretend to be your boss, your IT guy, a courier, or even a friend in need.
They’ll smile, they’ll rush you, they’ll confuse you….all while making you think you’re in control
But you’re not
Not anymore
A scene from your life that could be an attack
Imagine this….
You’re sipping coffee at your desk. Phone rings and you hear
“Hi, This is Kyle from IT. We detected some odd behavior on your account. Mind confirming your login so we can check it out real quick?”
Seems harmless right? Kyle sounds nice. Friendly even.
You give him your email and password. Done.
Except Kyle doesn’t work in IT.
He doesn’t even work here….as a matter of fact he isn’t even in the country you’re in
But just like that…”Kyle” just breached your company in 30 seconds flat.

That’s what social engineering is
No hacking…Just talking
Scared?
Good.
You should be.
The spy who almost RAN a country: Eli Cohen, Master of social engineering
Forget laptops. Forget phishing emails.
This was old school deception with world changing consequences
Eli Cohen was an Israeli spy who infiltrated the highest ranks of the Syrian government in the 1960s. Not with weapons. Not with threats.
With charm. Intelligence. Manipulation

Here is how he did it
- Cohen posed as a wealthy Arab businessman named ‘Kamel Amin Thaabet’
- He threw lavish parties, entertained top military officials, and gained their trust
- Over time, he climbed the political leader…not by force, but by fitting in so well they wanted him there
- He was almost appointed Syria’s Deputy Minister of Defense….imagine that; Israel’s spy almost leading the enemy’s military
From inside their government, he fed Israel priceless intelligence. Including Syrian fortification plans along the Golan Heights
No viruses. No exploits. Just a masterclass in human manipulation.
This wasn’t just social engineering…..it was social domination
Eventually, Cohen was discovered and executed in 1965.
But the damage was done.
And the lesson? Eternal
